President: Naj Wikoff is the Director of the Healing & the Arts Project of the C. Everett Koop Institute at Dartmouth College, and is the current president of the Society for the Arts in Healthcare. In addition, he is Founding Director of the Lake Placid Institute for the Arts and Humanities and the Executive Director of the Adirondack Film Society. Previously he served as the Program Director of the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH; the Director of Arts & Productions for the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City; the Coordinator of the Arts for the Global Forum of Spiritual & Parliamentary Leaders; the Vice-Chairman of the National Fine Arts Committee for the 1980 Winter Olympics; and the Executive Director of the Dutchess County Arts Council. A sculptor and celebration artist, Naj Wikoff serves on numerous boards and is affiliated with several national and regional cultural and educational associations.
Vice President: Elaine Sims has been a member of the Society for Arts in Healthcare since 1990. She is co-director of the Gifts of Art program at the University of Michigan Health System. She also is co-chair of the University of Michigan Commission for Women and an active volunteer arts facilitator in her community. She and former SAH member Leigh Sweda have produced conceptual art pieces under the name Leighlaine, which have appeared in museums around the world.
Treasurer: Barbara Smith Coleman is a sculptor, painter, and CEO of the Smith Farm Center for the Healing Arts, a non-profit foundation that serves cancer patients, physicians, and community hospitals. Additionally, she is an emeritus board member of the Virginia Center for the Arts and the Studio Theater of Washington, DC.
Secretary: Vara Kamin is the President of Vara Kamin’s Impressions of Light, Inc., which markets replicated images of her original art works. These images are used as backlit ceiling and wall lenses for placement in high-tech and high-stress areas in a wide variety of healthcare facilities. Her art work has appeared in Ladies Home Journal, Chicago Sun Times and Family Circle. Ms. Kamin is a graduate of the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing and has been contracted to design, develop and implement quality healthcare review programs for over one hundred hospitals in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
